Film The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey memimpin perolehan nominasi pada ajang penghargaan Visual Effects Society Awards ke-11. The Hobbit meraih 7 nominasi, diikuti oleh Life of Pi dan The Avengers (6 nominasi). Namun tampaknya, VES tidak memiliki cinta bagi The Dark Knight Rises. Film yang lebih banyak menggunakan practical effects ini hanya mendapatkan 1 nominasi untuk kategori Outstanding Models in a Feature Motion Picture. Khusus bagi Life of Pi, sang sutradara, Ang Lee, akan menerima penghargaan khusus Visionary Awards dari asosiasi ini atas kontribusinya dalam memaksimalkan penggunaan efek visual.
Visual Effects Society merupakan sebuah asosiasi yang menampung para profesional yang bekerja di bidang visual effects.
